The Criterion Collection version of Ishiro Honda’s Godzilla— aka Gojira — is out today on DVD and Blu-ray, restoring everyone’s favorite giant lizard in HD.

The release also includes Terry Morse’s Americanized version of the film, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, plus the usual Criterion essays, interviews and critical commentary.

Criterion says Godzilla was chosen for its value as a metaphorical allegory about post-war Japan, but you just know they secretly think the whole “enormous radioactive monster” thing is pretty cool, too.
